Weathered stone replaced
Careful restoration for weathered memorials
We restore worn memorials with careful stone cleaning, repair work and renewed lettering that helps important details stand clear again. Stone's the Monumental Masons carries out grave restorations in Weymouth, Dorset, with a measured approach that respects the age and character of each memorial. Years of weather can leave stone looking tired, steps uneven, and inscriptions hard to read.
We deal with those issues practically, cleaning the stone and surrounding area and replacing sections that we can no longer preserve. In one renovation project, we removed weathered stone and fitted newly quarried Chilmark stone to match the memorial properly. That kind of work helps you protect a loved one's memorial and keep it looking cared for over time. We also provide services such as memorial maintenance and additional inscription work to support long-term upkeep and remembrance.

Case Study: The Renovation of the Rockbourne War Memorial
We were commissioned to carry out extensive renovation work on this memorial. This work involved the cleaning of the stone, steps and surrounding area. In addition to this, old, weathered stone was removed and replaced with newly quarried material, in this case Chilmark stone from a nearby quarry. Finally, the lettering was given a fresh coat of paint. As the photographs show, the effort was rewarded by the results and the comments made by the passing inhabitants of Rockbourne while working on site during May.
